INTERPRETIVE NATURE TRAIL & GLACIAL CAVES


GLACIAL CAVE WALK

A sturdy system of boardwalks and stairways allows you to explore a 50,000 year-old arrangement of granite boulders and ledges. You may stay on the main walkway and stairs or experience the tight tunnels and crawlways of the ten different passages. Traveling through the passages is FUN and DIRTY!

Please stay on the marked walkways & passages.


Passage #1

DUCKS IN A ROW

Down the ladder, duck down, turn right and duck again.

Passage #2

THE CRACK OF DAWN

Watch your balance as you walk through this giant granite crack.

Passage #3

SIDEWINDER

Down, down, then slither between the rocks sideways.

Passage #4

EYE OF THE NEEDLE

Converging rock walls will draw you in and through the Eye.

Passage #5

DOWN & DIRTY

Tunnel down on your belly, twist and climb up for daylight.

Passage #6

CATHEDRAL STEPS

Squeeze down these Rock Stairs.

Passage #7

WALK THE PLANK

Climb up the plank then duck through.

Passage #8

DOWN & OUT

Tight squeeze out of this one.

Passage #9

BAT CAVE

Claw your way down, under the ledge, then climb back up.

Passage #10

YOU GOTTA BE KIDDIN’

This one’s a real belly scratcher.

NATURE TOUR LOCATIONS & SUBJECTS

The self-guided nature trail offers a wonderful opportunity to discover our unique geography, indigenous flora and fauna. You'll learn about our unique climate, the boreal forest, mosses & lichens, our indigenous animals such as loons and moose, birds of prey, songbirds and more. Take it at your own pace, and be sure to stop and enjoy the breathtaking scenery from this unique summit vantage point.

KIDS, FIND HIDDEN TREASURE

There's gold in them thar hills! Legend has it there's lost gold in Loon's glacial caves! Pick up a treasure map at the Gift Shop. Follow the clues to find the hidden treasure, and take home your own gold token.

CHILDREN'S PLAYGROUND

Set against the impressive backdrop of Loon North Peak, the mountaintop playground is a favorite among youngsters and parents alike. Your kids will love exploring this summit jungle gym while you relax and soak in the spectacular views from the Loon's summit.
